The Purpose of the Librarians' network is to extend the forum process to<br />
the public libraries and to combat funding cuts and privatization of the<br />
public library service. The directive on Public Lending Right (PLR) is<br />
being introduced by the EU to transform the library into a commercial<br />
institution. For the ESF 2008 the network is planning a conference on the<br />
significance of the PLR, called ''Non pago di leggere'' ('I won't pay for<br />
reading', or 'I won't stop reading') and a grassroots librarians' workshop<br />
called The Political Library.<br />
