Opening Ceremony of the Nairobi WSF, 20 January 2007
Logo: "Asile", by Franck Na.

Our goal is to create a permanent link between the Social Forum and the Library. Quotations.

This site about the activities of the World Social Forum is part of the pilot project of Kenya Library Association (KLA) and the Network Institute for Global Democratization (NIGD).

Wsflibrary.org was started in January 2007 at the time of the the WSF in Nairobi. Click Nairobi WSF 2007 for an overview of information collected by seventy East African librarians during the Nairobi WSF.

American librarians got involved at the first USSF in Atlanta in June-July 2007. Activities for and by librarians are in preparation for the European Social Forum in Malmö, Sweden, in September 2008. Let's make the WSF 2009 (to be held in Belém, Brazil) more library-related than any previous WSF!

At the moment, my biggest problem is the interference with the press
freedom. Kenya established the Media Council which ought to be autonomous.
I would want it to act as such. This is the time to get information as it
is. This is the time we need analysts to come out and show the country the
way forward. The banning of live broadcasts should be condemned by all. As
information managers we must condemn this action by the government in the
strongest terms possible.
