Organized by Attac Germany

Thursday, 28th of March 2013 16:00 - 18:30 (3rd slot)

Salle : M211

Description:

Cyprus is only the last event in a long row where the European Central bank is blackmailing people. We organize a workshop at the WSF in Tunis, where we want to discus how people could resist this blackmailing and how a progressive central bank in the service of the people would look like.

Attac Germany is part of the Blockupy-Coalition, which at the end of May will organize for the second time, like last year, bigger protests in front of the European Central Bank.

Big Central Banks like the European Central Bank of the Eurozone or the Federal Reserve of the USA are among the most powerful actors in world politics, but nearly without any democratic control. Since the outbreak of the financial crisis they used their power several times to intervene in favor of the financial industry and corporate power. How can Central Banks become better democratic controled and how would a Cental Bank working in the interest of people look like?
